Horton Plains

Horton Plains National Park is the highest plateau of Sri Lanka with one of the most incredible views ever to be seen. It is characterized by a beautiful landscape of rolling hills, covered in upper montane forest and wet patana grassland. The Horton Plains vegetation is classified into two distinctive groups, mostly consisting of montane grasslands and lesser sub tropical montane evergreen cloud forests. Horton Plains, named after the British Governor, Sir Robert Horton (1831 – 37) is home to a wide variety of flora numbering 57 species of which 29 are endemic to Sri Lanka.  The very best time of the year for visiting Horton Plains is from January to March very early in the morning.
